Our Second Annual “Pelican Plunge”

Hunting Island State Park in cooperation with FOHI, present the LowCountry version of the ever-popular Polar Bear Plunges with our second Pelican Plunge at Hunting Island's Lighthouse (North) Beach on January 1st, 2010.

hunting island lighthouseThis year donations benefit educational programs like the Discover Carolina SC State Park Programs (Beaufort County, South Carolina Schools) through sponsorship of individual and team swim participants.

There will be chimenea fires, hot beverages to welcome our swimmers out of the surf, and beach music by the Heritage Steel Drum Band. Commemorative teeshirts will be available for sale, and 50 will be awarded to the first participants raising $50 or more in sponsorships. A Grand Prize will be awarded to the participant who raises the most money. Bathers and their cheering sections will gather for registration at the picnic area near the lighthouse beginning at 12:00 noon. The Plunge begins promptly at 1:00 pm!

We know you have always dreamed of a New Year's dive into the Atlantic Ocean. Now you can do it for students at Hunting Island State Park and have fun with your neighbors and friends! Seawater temperatures average 54 degrees F. in December (source=NOAA) at Charleston, SC. It won't be too bad…
